Sir Tom FinneyIt is always very sad when one learns of a great man passing on. And, in Sir Tom

Finney – he really was a one life’s true, truly great people.

Not only was he perhaps England’s finest, most complete football player these

islands have ever produced – he was a perfect gentleman. Oh yes, our Tom was a

very, very nice man indeed in every way one might care to judge.

I had the pleasure to meet this genuine football legend on many occasions during

my time in the game and one could never fail to be impressed by his natural

warmth, his very sincere and friendly manner, his great modesty and the many

fantastic football stories that he so readily shared. The Tom Finney’s of this

world are few and far between – a very rare, gifted and talented man and a very

rare, genuinely golden human being.

Rest in Peace dear Tom – we shall all miss you so much. And, from all those that

had the pleasure and the privilege to know you personally – let me say ‘thank

you’ – just for being you.
